the story behind the rescue.

i just realized that i forgot to tell the story of the rescue in the last blog that had the title rescue in it. this is what really happened:
2 of my friends decided to rent a kayak and go out along the bay where the beach was. i wouldn't say they have the most experience, but they're not rookie kayakers.
anyway, we're chilling on the beach- the rest of us, and my phone rings...its the girls...the conversation goes like this:
"hi-- can you come rescue us, we got knocked over by a wave, and we're stuck on a beach. we don't know where our paddles are and something is making noise in the bush"
so...andrea goes into rescue mode. i talk to the guy they rented the kayak from, and tell him we need to go find them. keep in mind there is quite a bit of coastline, and i can't see them- even with their orange life jackets. so the Thai boat rental guy gets his friend, who is as rasta as Thai people can get and he takes me in his little dingy rectangle motor boat out to find these girls. i'm just in my bathing suit clutching a cell phone trying to spot the girls because the driver of the boat doesn't even know where they are...the boat is small and the waves are choppy. keep in mind- this wasn't really scary...quite funny.
i spot them along this rocky outcrop off the side of a mini little beach, and show bob marley so he cautiously gets our boat there. i help him get the boat on shore, then he tells me to hold onto it while he goes to get the kayak. and by "tells" i mean uses about two words, kind of hand gestures, and we nod in agreement- somehow.
he gets the kayak and the girls have made their way over to the boat, when the guy all of a sudden says...no no...walk..walk! at this point, i'm a little worried because a. what is going on here bob marley? b. the girls don't have shoes or water c. what the deuce is going on here bob marley?
i try to ask him, but he just says "walk walk 20 minutes walk"
when we get back to shore he says the waves were too strong and the boat would have snapped. fair enough i guess. the girls took about an hour though and had to climb over rocks and stuff, but along their way, a family living in a stick hut gave them shoes...very kind.
i met the girls with some water, they had a bit of heat stroke later on in the day, but all in all...its a good story, we're all alive, and i got a boat trip with bob marley.
thank you.

Andrea! I just found your blog and it was exciting to see what you've been up to. I had a kayak incident of my own last week. I'll send you an email. It was pretty crazy. No bob marley however. And we were in the Northwest Territories instead of Yellowknife. Whatever though right. Anyways, it looks beautiful there! I want to come visit you. I hope you are having a FANTASTIC time and I can't wait to see you when you get back. Bring me a mango blizzard.
