This post is a little bit overdue. I've been doing well as of lately...finding my way around Bangkok and the rest of Thailand.
The first photo on this post is of one of my classes. The kids have pool time on a weekly basis, and they have bathing suit uniforms and have to wear those swim caps. It is one of the cutest things ever when they all go down to the pool...they have to walk in a line with their hands on one another's shoulders...its kind of torture for them, but its so cute to just watch. Teaching is going better than it has been. Its nice that the kids have a bit of vocabulary, and they adore you...I have one student who doesn't understand the difference between "yellow" and "hello". We're working on it. He smiles all the time- I might bring him home.
Last weekend (the 13-15), a few of us went back to Koh Samet, an island about 3 hours from BKK. The weather wasn't the greatest (we got rained out on Sunday), but there were quite a few highlights. On Saturday, because it was overcast, Megan and I decided to rent a motorbike. I drove because she didn't really know how to... we toured around the island- through some mud, through some narrow streets, and laughed our heads off trying to make it up the steep hills. Time of my life. The next photo is of the hut that we stayed in. It was only about 100m to the beach from it...it was like a very little cabin from home.. it was an air conditioned room (which we couldn't figure out how to turn off and had it set at 16C the first night) and had 2 beds, and our own washroom (with no hot water and a toilet that you flush by pouring water down it) all this for only 12 dollars a night. And that was actually kind of expensive. The last photo shows what the weather was like. The first night there we took a speed boat over which is expensive but only about 15 mins. The water was so choppy, it was like going on a rollercoaster and on the way back, we took the ferry which is about 40 mins, but it was thunderstorming and fairly wavy, and on top of that we were standing at the back of the boat. Once we got to the harbour, we had to cross 4 boats to get onto the dock. I had one of those moments where I committed to a jump across the sludge before I was ready, and had to just go for it. A little bit scary, but not bad.
This weekend, I'm staying in BKK- I'll let you know how things go. Thanks for sending emails...keep them coming.
stay classy.
